 Math Explanations

Have your students use Flipgrid to explain their Math strategies! This can be done by holding up a whiteboard or piece of paper, or by using the tools built into the Flipgrid Shorts Camera as pictured below:

If your students use email addresses to log onto Flipgrid, you can also have your students collaborate on Wakelet using Flipgrid. Follow these steps to set it up for your students (NOTE: this will not work if your students use student ID’s to log in):

  1. Sign into your Wakelet account (or create one). Create a new collection by clicking the green “+” sign labeled “Create a new collection.”

  2. Once you have set up your collection, be sure to turn on the Collaboration feature. From the collection, click on the settings gear located in the top left corner of the screen. Then toggle on the switch under Collaboration.

  3. Now that you have the Collaboration turned on, students will need access to the collection. Share either the link or the QR code with the students. This will provide them with access to the collection. Now they can start adding content.

4. Students have options when they add content. They may add photographs, links, YouTube videos, PDF’s, files from their Google Drive / OneDrive, and even a Flipgrid video.

5. Have your students start with solving the math situation using paper or a whiteboard, then have the photograph their work and upload it to the Wakelet collection (this also gives you a monitoring piece).

6. Then, have the group decide on which strategy they believe is the most efficient and appropriate in solving the situation. Once they have decided, they may record a video on Flipgrid explaining the steps. This can then be shared to the rest of the class.
